Library & Research Documentation Centre
The Department of Library and Research Documentation and Central Library is an integral academic and research support facility of Amala Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS), serving students, faculty, doctors, researchers and other academic staff across its various educational and healthcare divisions. The Central Library provides dedicated learning and research resources for students and faculty of Allied Health Sciences, along with the Medical, Nursing, Ayurveda and other academic programmes of the institution.
Established in 2003, along with Amala Medical College, the Central Library has evolved into a comprehensive knowledge and research centre supporting academic learning, clinical education and research activities across the institution.
Library Services for Allied Health Sciences
For students and faculty of Allied Health Sciences, the library provides access to a wide range of academic resources relevant to disciplines such as Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Radiology and Imaging Technology, Hospital Administration and other allied healthcare programmes.
The library supports students in:
- Accessing textbooks, reference materials and academic resources related to their respective programmes
- Supporting classroom learning, assignments, seminars and academic projects
- Facilitating access to scientific journals and research literature
- Supporting undergraduate and postgraduate research activities
- Providing resources for evidence-based healthcare education and practice
- Developing information-literacy and research skills among students
- Providing a conducive environment for independent study and academic learning
The Research Documentation Centre further supports faculty and researchers in accessing and organising scholarly information and research literature, thereby promoting a culture of academic inquiry and evidence-based practice.
A Library with a Legacy
The Central Library is named after Padma Bhushan Rev. Fr. Gabriel Chiramel CMI, a distinguished educationist, administrator, zoologist, author and social reformer.
Fr. Gabriel served as the founding Principal of Christ College, Irinjalakuda, from 1956 to 1975 and played a significant role in the establishment and development of several educational and cultural institutions in Kerala. He was also instrumental in establishing the Department of Zoology at Sacred Heart College, Thevara.
His contribution to education and society was recognised with the Padma Bhushan in 2007. He passed away in 2017 at the age of 103.
